Special Issue Information

In our journal Information System and Smart City, a special issue is calling for papers about ecosystem framework in smart cities.

A smart city is an ecosystem comprised of people, organizations and businesses, policies, laws and processes integrated to create the desired outcomes. The Ecosystem Framework (EF) reveals the benefits of ecosystems to society and presents a fundamental approach to information systems and smart cities. Over the past decades, it has received increasing attention from the research community and has recently risen to the political agenda. Today, EF is becoming a key determinant of organizational competitiveness. Increasing EF capabilities can bring advantages, facilitate and enhance the strategic and operational aspects of smart cities as well as bring strategic and operational advantages. The ecosystem framework is also a strategy for the integrated management of smart cities, water, and living resources that promotes conservation and sustainable use in an equitable way. The application of the ecosystem framework will help to reach a balance between the information system and the smart city. However, many cities are not taking an ecosystem approach to smart city projects.

In fact, the topic of this issue, the ecosystem framework of smart cities, will be very extensive. Because the ecosystem of a smart city is very complicated. Any discussion about the ecosystem in smart cities will be welcome. Potential topics are just advice such as different models of small city ecosystems, innovation enablement, value creators in smart cities, sustainability, public-private partnership, etc.
