The history of religious thought and the development of ideas about race, intertwined (in particular, in Europe-Christianity). While, in throughout history, many devout people have been part of movements against the terrible acts that took place under colonization, ending slavery, opposing Nazi anti-Semitism, promoting civil rights and white supremacy. However, despite important developments towards equality, racism remained ubiquitous and became part of the underlying logic of religious thought, as well as the politics, economy and culture of society.
This section, Philosophy of Race and Religion, accepts philosophical exploratory papers on race, racism, and religious thought. It includes philosophical analysis of religious positions that reinforce and promote specific racial ideas, tracing the entanglement between philosophy and religion with racial political ideologies, critical responses to racism from philosophers such as African-American philosophers and liberation theologians, evaluating the continued effects of racism in culture and religious thought. Papers that emphasize the use of philosophical aspects or theories such as epistemology, phenomenology, existence, and others, as an analytical approach are also welcome. So it is with papers on the critique of the philosophy of race and religion.
