The prime objective of this section module is to introduce the principles behind the design of systems such as

sustainable stormwater, water supply and gravity sewer systems. This section provides basic knowledge and

solves basic design problems in those systems as applicable in civil engineering. In addition, the section covers

the use appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering tools, including information technology,

prediction, and modelling, for the solution of broadly defined engineering problems, with an understanding of

the limitations, restrictions, premises, assumptions, and constraints. This includes knowledge and understanding

of the impact of engineering activity on the society, economy, industrial and physical environment, and address

sustainability issues as well, by analysis and evaluation.

In terms of water resources management, the main purpose of this section is to introduce concepts of planning,

developing, and implementing water resources projects and programmes. In addition, it covers ways in which

water availability and use are matched and develop alternative land use and water allocation policies.
