Dear colleagues,

During the annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association in November 2007, the role of anthropological methods used by the US Army during the Iraq War was discussed. Anthropologists were employed as cultural advisors, and their consultancy proved to be a powerful tool in achieving a strategic advantage in both the social and military aspects of the war. The usage of anthropologists and anthropological methods by the military was promptly called military anthropology. Today, military anthropology covers cognition issues regarding social relations and interactions between the military and society organization. Conducting anthropological research in the military area brings various aspects of interests, such as history, unique culture, habits, customs, system of values, behaviors, lifestyle, etc., that have a significant influence on society as a whole.

Possible research topics related to Military Anthropology:
1. The impact of military culture on soldiers' mental health
2. The role of military culture in shaping gender identity
3. The effectiveness of anthropological methods in counterinsurgency operations
4. The relationship between military culture and civilian society
5. The impact of military culture on family dynamics
6. The role of military culture in shaping political ideology
7. The effectiveness of cultural sensitivity training in the military
8. The relationship between military culture and patriotism
9. The influence of military culture on leadership styles
10. The impact of military culture on decision-making processes

Overall, military anthropology is a valuable field of study, and we welcome further contributions and discussions on this important topic.
