Dear colleagues,

Currently, we are in a period of time that can be called the fourth feminist wave. This wave is characterized by a focus on empowerment, intersectionality and justice (Molyneux et al, 2020), but also by the backlash it has faced. While public debates have highlighted issues and ways in which power imbalances and dominance are reinforced in heteropatriarchal societies, it seems a paradox of emancipation that advancements in women’s rights and sexual and reproductive health and rights lead to a movement of people who feel threatened by these social transformations. The so-called anti-gender movement is an assemblage of actors opposing gender ideology, gender theory and gender studies. Yet, in many parts of the world empowerment of women continues, and women are successful in claiming their rights.

Changing gender relations affect society and cultures. Despite anti-movements and pressure, we cannot deny activism and progress concerning gender issues. It is important to indicate such social transformations.

In this context, we seek articles focusing on gender, more especially articles that express hope rather than despair. These may be articles demonstrating activism, political dimensions of gender, gender relations, empowerment, or social transformations. In addition, we seek articles that indicate a cultural context, including how culture and society change, especially from an anthropological point of view.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
