Section Collection Information
Dear Colleagues,
Protein assemblies called adhesion and growth factors are crucial in a number of biological processes, including cell migration, cell differentiation, and tissue repair. Growth factors are signaling chemicals that promote cell division and proliferation, whereas adhesion factors are proteins that allow cell adherence to the extracellular matrix and to other cells. The growth and upkeep of the body's tissues and organs depends on both adhesion and growth factors. They have a significant role in a number of disease processes, including cancer, where they can encourage metastasis and tumour growth.
The regulation of cell behaviour involves both cell adhesion and growth factor receptors. Growth factor receptors (GFRs) and adhesion receptors each have unique signalling properties that support cell function. The expression and activity of growth factors during differentiation might be affected by adhesive phenomena. The incorporation of type I collagen and fibronectin into the extracellular matrix of fibroblasts is accelerated by transforming growth factor-β (TGF). Adaptable multifunctional injectable hydrogels, such as those that are biodegradable, stretchy, and sticky, are currently being developed. Important adhesion molecules that affect cell behaviour include platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and P-selectin. Growth and adhesion factors, hormones, lipids, and minerals for cell culture are all found in serum. Growth factors are vital substances necessary for the upkeep and differentiation of cells in culture and are frequently utilised in cell therapy.
