Dear colleagues,

Cities are facing the challenge of rapid urbanization. The concept of smart cities has emerged to improve sustainability, efficiency, and the quality of life within urban areas. Smart cities leverage advanced technologies and data-driven decision-making to optimize various aspects of urban life encompassing transport networks, energy and water supply chains, healthcare management, e-administration, public safety, and e-commerce. However, as the smart city paradigm continues to evolve, it is crucial to ensure that responsible innovation and ecological consideration are at the forefront of the developments. Moreover, responsible innovation plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the development and deployment of smart cities algorithms consider their ecological footprint. This section delves into the importance of incorporating sustainability criteria in the design, implementation, and operation of smart cities. The section underscores the importance of data-driven decision-making and responsible innovation in the development of a new paradigm of smart cities. By leveraging data analytics and embracing sustainable practices, cities can address ecological challenges and create urban environments that are environmentally friendly, socially equitable, and economically viable. It calls for a collaborative approach among policymakers, urban planners, technology providers, and citizens to ensure that smart city initiatives prioritize responsible innovation and ecological considerations, leading to a more sustainable and resilient urban future.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
